you are beautiful

so perfectly human
you walk amongst mere mortals
like an angel
surrounded by light
and clothed in white feathers
and gold

you smile
and everything is alive

even your name
makes me think
what is love?
and how it moves me
like a puppet

and how can it be true
that you own me completely
and you don’t even know

unrequited love

once i fell in love
with a mirage
a reflection
so beautiful
she held me in awe

you see,
life moves on
and she is not a statue
or a painting
to be admired

she is a woman,
a person.
and her neck is as graceful as an alabaster cliff
and her hair falls in spinning rivulets
and she moves like a mixture of summer and laughter
and i’m sure there are angels that follow her everywhere she goes

so i can’t look at her
she’s too miraculous
too amazing

and i’m not sure it’s really love
but it’s something like it

where are you?

it’s been ages
but you’re still a part of my soul

like a flaw in a perfect diamond

it makes me shimmer

and life goes on

the water echoes and splashes
and the light refracts all around us
and somehow it’s just the magic of god
or some network of infinite laws
that surpass our ability to explain
with mere words

and we’re still just people

crazy crazy crazy people

our love remains

i’m an old man now
and there are so many shadows in the past

your eyes seem to change
at times
like a mask

but the truth is always there
whispering
“do you hear me?”

still i can’t see the past
only the connection of our souls
and the path forward

somehow it’s you

every breath
escapes our soul
each drop
of life

walking along the beach
or in the sand of the lonely desert
the snake scurries away
the crab is washed away by the tide

and we continue onward
with the sand in our toes
and the sun on our necks
